In the summer of 1985, working week became a group. touring europe's jazz and pop festivals, vocalist juliet roberts finally grew to know simon booth and larry stabbins, the partners she'd joined a mere ten days before the recording of "working nights". slowly but surely, the new group crystallized around juliet's' singing and larry's blowing while the jazz dance rhythms which had launched the band now served to underscore the soulful styles they'd begun to-explore. working week's participation in "touche pas a mon pote", a huge anti racism rally held in paris, inspired “friend", a shimmering ballad that stands up for a multi-cultural society based on a respect for cultural differences, that mutual respect shines through "companeros' and inspired its title, a tribute to the trio's latin leanings and to their developing friendship. from the street spanish feel of “soul train” to the muted african guitars that push along "dancing in motion", "companeros" is an internationalist record- that borrows from' many cultures and combines the talents of three very different musicians into a sound that has its own character.
Working week are not a jazz group or a soul group or any other kind of group. they have become simply themselves - friends allowing their respective talents to shine. recorded over two months in the summer of 1986, "companeros" is a testament to the value of friendship.
