Released on February 1969, , this debut album from Detroit.based (Motor City) rock band was recorded "live" on stage at Russ Gibb's GRANDE BALLROOM, Detroit, on the Zenta New Year, October 30-31, 1968 (Devil's Night and Halloween). Produced by JAC HOLZMAN & BRUCE BOTNICK, (also Engineering) the LP -despite an unfavorable review (Rolling Stone magazine) upon its release - it turned out to be one of the fundamental forerunner to punk rock music, The album is also famous for a "little controversy" regarding the title track: in fact, singer Rob Tyner, before attacking the opening line of the song, shouted, "And right now... right now... right now it's time to... kick out the jams, motherfuckers!". Elektra Records executives took offense at the phrase and decided to change/edit out it (replacing the offending words with "brothers and sisters"). Among those mentioned in the suggestive "cultural and political" categories of the time (TRANS . LOVE ENERGIES / MINISTER OF DEFENSE / CO-CONSPIRATORS), it is worth mentioning JOHN SINCLAIR Guidance: a poet, writer and political activist Writes Wikipedia As an emerging young poet in the mid-1960s, Sinclair took on the role of manager for the Detroit rock band MC5. The band's politically charged music and its Yippie core audience dovetailed with Sinclair's own radical development. In 1968, while still working with the band, he conspicuously served as a founding member of the White Panther Party, a militantly anti-racist socialist group and counterpart of the Black Panthers. Another mention for BROTHER J. C. CRAWFORD Religious Leader and Spiritual Adviser |
